I'm looking for the correct, molded-rubber trunk insulation pad for a '73 914. My car has been missing the trunk pad since before it arrived, and I'd like to replace it.

Does anyone have a nice pad for sale? If so, please let me know. Thanks!

@BillC

Are you looking for the mat that sits on the floor of the rear trunk where the targa top is stored when not in use? Or the firewall engine compartment insulation pad?

I'm looking for the mat that sits on the floor of the rear trunk, under the carpet (and under the targa top when it's stored in the trunk).

Me too . . . for my '75. I haven't seen one in a long time and can't seem to find them. I wish 914 rubber would make them.

AA has made a decent reproduction of the 1975 and 1976 type. I have one in one of my 1974 914s but I'm still looking for the correct molding type for '73 and '74 like the original poster.

Let's be sure about which pads are which. The pad seems to have changed before February 1974, as the LEs had the later pad. Wonki may be able to pinpoint the date:

@wonkipop

1973-Early 1974 (first photo)

Late 1974-1976 (last photo)

Wish I knew how to interweave photos into text

Yes, Jeff. I assume that I need the earlier pad for my white 1974 914 which was built in November of 1973. I have a reproduction later pad in my LE.

Thanks for the photos!

I need the one for 1973-early 1974 (the one in the first photo you posted, on the left).

FYI:
When I restored my 914 years ago I purchased the late 1974 rear matt direct from the Porsche dealer. When it arrived the matt was correct but completely flat. I put it in then after motor heat from the engine it fit every contour & valley to meet PCA concours judges approval.

well @JeffBowlsby

i know @Starbear 's 74 1.8 has the earlier pad. the hard fullsize pad under the carpet.
his is a late nov 73 (28th november) build.

and i know mine, which is a late jan 74 build has the updated soft foam filled plastic pad fullsize under the carpet.

the change is somewhere between.
i could trawl back through my data and see if i can pinpoint a much more precise date.

@JeffBowlsby

trawling the L jet data i can narrow down the date change for the rear trunk pad to this.

last hard pad. build date 10 dec 73. Vin 12/73 date.
first soft pad. build date 11 jan 74. Vin 01/74 date.

these were trustworthy examples where the trunk pad could be dated to.

at this point in time i would generalise that the hard pads lasted through to end of calendar year 73 and the soft pads came with the start of calendar year 74.

additionally given my firm opinion that only L jets were built between start of nov 73 and end of jan 74 i believe there won't be any fuzziness to 2.0 74 models.
the early 2.0s have the hard pad. 08-10 73.
the late 2.0s have the soft pad. 02-06 74.

Sorry it's not for sale. Just posting for info purposes.
