Brain trust: I have a bout 60 miles on the LE motor and it's running pretty well. I have the regulator that came with the car, age is unknown. I am getting voltage readings anywhere between 12.6 to 14.2 at the battery depending on the rpm and temperature. My questions: Pelican shows a Hella unit that looks just like to one I have. Are there any solid state units out there that would be better to have? I don't have a spare so I'm going to order whatever is recommended, if for nothing else but to have a spare. BTW, the alternator looks to be a relatively new addition, prior to my taking stewardship, it's a Bosch reman.

The Hella one made in china appears to be the same one sold for some time by them that I can confirm doesn't fit properly ...whey they continue to sell them is beyond me : (IMG:style_emoticons/default/confused24.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/headbang.gif) .

I use this one I bought on Amazon. Works fine and is adjustable. Plugs in and was a direct swap. I installed it last year… 3k miles with no issues.

I also just bought one of those voltage regulators off of Amazon. So far I haven't had any issues and it is nice that it is adjustable.

Yes. I set it with my digital meter which is more accurate than my console gauge.

I have the same one and happy to report no charging issues, no battery boil overs in 2.5 years.
Minor filing to allow a proper fit to the relay board.

GM does. People have done the work to swap in a GM alternator for the stock part. Haven't heard of any problems with it, though I haven't heard reports of long-term success either. I think McMark posted a thread about one that he did a number of years back?

Thanks everyone! I ordered one of the Bosch units, trying to keep the LE as original as possible. It’s coming from Europe, so I’ll need to wait and see what arrives.

I had a one wire GM alternator on my car for years…but not a lot of miles (about 10,000). I had to replace it last year because the heat ate it up. Back to stock now.
