I have a couple decent 914 shells and a 3.3 turbo gathering dust. Assuming I could stuff the 3.3 into a teener, would there be a market for such a beast?

If you pay a shop $200/hr no you'll be upside down.

If you are willing to pay yourself for labor then you will make $0-100/hr.

At my shop, we have found it hard to make money building anything on spec. Cars, engines, etc. If we build custom for a customer, we are charging time and materials. If we build on spec, it’s very hard to get anything for the labor. I think this is pretty universal. I have seen shops build cars and they take forever to sell. If shops could build cars on spec and sell at the same profit as a customer build, they would. Other than the customer financing the build, building a car without having to take the customer’s wants and needs into account is way easier.

I wondered if the 3.3 turbo engine would work in the 914. It's a hell of an engine putting out 275HP or so. There might be a good bit of plumbing work to be done to make it fit. The turbo is in the wrong place for the 914. In the stock position it would end up under the passenger's seat and the turbo gets smoking hot. The turbo would need to be relocated to the rear of the engine and custom exhaust and intake runners would be needed.

Thanks for the comments all, mostly a pipe dream. I can find my way through the 3 914 projects I have in different states, BUT have been less fortunate selling a sweet 911 turbo (not 930), unless its bargain basement

at 74 y/o I need to rid some of these machines from my life, just hate to give them away

I hadn't planned on a horiz. fan, if I live long enough I would consider fitting the 3.3 engine as it is

but no clue as to the pitfalls
